Why' Before Jelly Belly was unleashed upon the world, the center of a jelly bean was simply unflavored sugar, with the bean's flavoring (if any) added to the candy shell. But with Jelly Belly candy, everything changed - the center of every Jelly Belly bean is flavored with natural flavors, and so is the candy coating. Not only that, but the sweet center only has about half the sugar that a traditional jelly bean does.
Today, there are fifty official flavors of Jelly Belly candy ' a long way from the original eight (Very Cherry, Tangerine, Lemon, Green Apple, Grape Jelly, Licorice, A&W Cream Soda and A&W Root Beer). In addition to their fifty staple flavors, the company also experiments with new flavors (ranging from buttered toast to honey bean and beyond), classic soda pop flavors, and the infamous Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans featured in the Harry Potter series, with flavors like bacon, brussel sprouts, mud, earwax, pepperoni and sardine. Among the more untraditional of the official flavors are Buttered Popcorn, Chili Mango, Toasted Marshmallow and Margarita.
